Steve Martin’s celebrated comedy Picasso at the Lapin Agile rewrote history for Renegade Shakespeare Company as our second show.  Picasso was a natural selection for the up-and-coming RSC, as we are dedicated to producing a mix of Shakespeare and contemporary authors.

Depicting a fictional meeting of two of twentieth century’s greatest minds – Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein – Picasso at the Lapin Agile delves into questions of art, science, genius, madness, sex, love, and really good timing.  Set in 1904, the play finds twenty-somethings Picasso and Einstein on the cusp of a new century.  It deals with their potential and the beginnings of greatness.  And it’s hilarious.  Funny, but with soul.

Revered comedian Steve Martin’s trademark wit and laugh-out-loud comedy flow through the script.  His language is beautiful, full of life and ideas, passion and humor.  The play is both extremely funny and very poignant.  Our production was a run-away smash, with every post-opening performance selling out.
