Performer

But I have been known to dabble in some acting, some singing, some spoken word.  More in college than in Chicago.  Every once in a while, you can catch me, though.  Here are a few of these rare occasions.

It doesn’t happen often...

Performing my spoken word piece A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl  at Cabaret Vagabond’s On the Origin of Kunst.  19 June 2009.

In this piece, I read excerpts from my actual diary--age 11.  I then comment upon what I find that is indicative of my future writing style.

The results are mortifying and hilarious.

I played the small part of Charlotte, the landlord’s daughter, in the first play I wrote to be produced in Chicago, The Tiniest Sound in Recorded History.

I pretty much sang two songs in the stairwell offstage, and came in to break one heart and deliver two eviction notices.  That Charlotte was always up to no good.

Here I am with the rest of the cast on opening night.

Reading my piece Love Letter to a 16-Year-Old Zombie at Cabaret Vagabond’s Second Annual Zombie Apocalypse.  24 October 2009.

Sometimes at night when I lie awake, I can hear you through the barricades.  I pretend that my name is “braaaaaains” and you’re calling for me.

I don’t know a heck of a lot about zombies, but this piece was fun to write and fun to perform.  You’d be hard pressed to not have fun a Cabaret Vagabond event, however.

Reading my piece

Geography: A Love Story

at Cabaret Vagabond’s All-Inculsive Holiday Cabaret Spectacular!  With puppets!
